Holy basil Leaf (Ocimum tenuiflorum), also known as Tulsi, is a fragrant, bushy perennial herb with hairy stems and green to purple toothed or entire leaves. The leaves are oval-shaped, richly aromatic, and can be green or purple depending on the variety. It grows up to about 1 meter (3.3 feet) tall and produces small pink, white, or lavender tubular flowers arranged in terminal spikes. Holy basil has a pungent aroma combining notes of clove, mint, and peppery spice.
Widely revered in religious and traditional medicinal contexts, the plant is known for its adaptogenic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. It is used to promote spiritual purity, support respiratory and immune health, reduce stress, and provide relief from digestive and skin conditions. In cooking, especially in Southeast Asia, it adds a unique spicy flavor to dishes and beverages
